Welcome to the November 2025 edition of the ABKC news.

Hopefully you have all managed to set your 2026 calendars by now and will be working on your 2026 championship regulations.  Club renewals are now available on Sport:80.  Clubs will need to ensure their Safeguarding Officers have renewed their licence.  Should anyone need help, please contact us.

Kart Safeguarding & Welfare Agreement

Communication has gone out to all Kart Clubs regarding the Safeguarding and Welfare Agreement.   Clubs have been divided into three groups, with each group supported by Motorsport UK through the implementation phase over a three-month period. Ahead of each group launch, a webinar will be held to discuss the agreement, it’s implementation and answer any questions the Clubs may have. The webinar dates are:

•               Wednesday 1st October – held for the first clubs

•               Tuesday 13th January – 7pm

•               Tuesday 14th April – 7pm

Motorsport UK will be running drop-in sessions throughout and will be supporting the Clubs to implement each part of the agreement.  Some of the clubs in the first group have already completed the requirements which will become mandatory in 2027.  On the Motorsport UK website go to Clubs & Organisers, Safeguarding, and Karting Welfare and Safeguarding toolkit.

Also note that Alpha are adding the facility for a driver to nominate their mechanic, so that regulated activity can be observed for minors.

Medics at Kart Circuits

As some will have seen the Medical regulations are being amended for 2026.  Individual medics will need to be licenced by Motorsport UK.  Those using a medic supplier will need to ensure that supplier is approved by Motorsport UK, and a contract is in place for the supply of medics to the club or venue.

Driving Standard Penalties

Some clubs have asked for the return of the penalty point system.  They may not be aware that all penalties are reviewed by Motorsport UK and once a certain number have been awarded a warning letter is sent to the competitor. Some 23 letters have been sent so far this year, and further misdemeanours can results in withdrawal of the licence.  Remember that club championship regulations can apply penalties as deductions or restrictions on counting rounds if a penalty is applied during a meeting.  Most clubs do apply the restriction of having to count the round if a DSQ from the whole event is applied but negative points could be applied for lesser penalties if desired.

Junior ages

Could event secretaries please ensure that the age of the competitor are checked against their licence and are correct for the class entered.  Note that if a National licence is in place the age for moving up may be lower.  There has been allegations that some Juniors are racing under the age requirements.

SLOW Boards

Remember that the SLOW BOARDS regulations apply from 1st January, replacing the battenburg flags.  These boards will have to be available at all marshal posts and need to be 800x600mm in Yellow with Black lettering of “SLOW”.  They could be mounted on a pole for a marshal to use, or hinged to the post to swing out.

Companies House identity requirements

Clubs that are limited companies will be aware that all Directors must verify their identity at Companies House.  This involves using the new Gov.uk One App and login on a smartphone, verifying identity through scanning a passport or driving licence photocard, then verifying that photo with an actual photo taken by the phone.  A unique code is then generated which can be used to verity against any directorships held.  This needs to be done by all directors in the club by 18th November or the accountants will not be able to file updates or accounts.  Best to start the process in the Companies House website.

Regulation changes for 2026

The Karting Yearbook and 2026 NCRs will be published on 1st December.

By the way, clubs will be eligible for a 50% discount on engine scrutineering eligibility checking tools for classes that they are running.  A reminder that regulations must state if CIK 102 octane fuel is permitted for KZ2 and / or 250 classes as many in these classes use these higher octane fuels.  There is an update on the track limit regulations.

New classes: Two new electric Cadet classes for MightE and Rotax are going to be homologated for 2026.  More information to follow in a second edition of the newsletter.

A proposal is going through the system to allow parents or guardians to vote on behalf of an under 16, if the club wishes

Volunteer survey

The results have been analysed by Motorsport UK and for instance there are 273 karting specific official licences, and the average age has increased by 3.6 years since 2013.
