Welcome to the September 2025 edition of the ABKC news.

We hope everyone has had a chance for a break over the summer.  As most will know J.A.G.’s Jean Sheall passed away recently after a short illness.  We are sure all clubs will acknowledge the support she gave over many years to our clubs and championships, and join us in condolences to the family.  We welcome new ABKC members Coleraine & District Motor Club Kart Section and Bishopscourt Kart Club.

Motorsport UK are offering an IAME Bambino race at their last IAME British Kart Championship.  This is restricted down from the version that currently runs in some IKR series and will also use the Le Cont all Weather tyres  MAUK will be issuing some further details after the trial event.  ABKC have expressed concerns about the move although Motorsport UK say there are currently no decisions about having the class from 2026.

Club Workshops

Motorsport UK are organising club workshops for club committee members at five locations across the UK covering:

Sustainability – Carbon Calculator & Environmental Management System

Marketing – Creating your Club’s Image & How to promote your Club and Events

People – Welfare, Recruitment & Safeguarding

Management – Club Development, Risk Assessments & Sport:80

Event Officials – National Competition Rules, Judicial and Event Steward/Event Secretary content.

Parental Control

Clubs have stated concerns about abuse of facilities during race weekends.  Feedback from other motorsport and motorcycle events show this does not happen except at karting, why?  Other events are mostly very good at keeping events tidy.  And it does not seem to be just the youngsters, adults also are abusing facilities.  Perhaps more warning at the briefings?

Driving Standards

A reminder that all drivers and team personnel should have reviewed the driving standards video here: https://motorsportuk.tv/videos/motorsport-uk-sporting-and-driving-guidelines-karting/

Kart Development Fund

We have highlighted this before, but Motorport UK really encourage clubs to apply for funding, there are plenty funds available.  Designed to assist and support the growth of karting across the UK, the fund was created through the sale of homologated kart engines and tyres within the UK karting market, of which 50 percent of the monies raised are available for Motorsport UK registered kart clubs in the form of grants.  The fund has been used for a variety of initiatives, including live streaming, support of marketing and promotional materials for a local kart club and in the creation of filming safety videos for track users.  Suggested uses for clubs applying to grants include: Sustainability projects; Safety projects; Live streaming; Promotion of events; Incentives and prizes to encourage and increase participation: Diversification and accessibility projects: Community Engagement; Scrutineering Equipment

Club Surveys

Motorsport UK will shortly be sending out a survey to kart clubs on our behalf.  Please do respond, it is very important we get your feedback on important issues affecting our sport.  Also Motorsport UK have a short survey on SuperKX and on Medical Providers which we encourage clubs to complete to provide clearer pictures across the sport.

Feedback

As always we welcome feedback and issues to discuss with Motorsport UK at the forthcoming committee meetings.
